This past weekend, I decided to buy a new bike. Melissa and Jeff came with Mia, Sadie and I to TrySports in Charlotte. They had some really good deals on Fugi and Kestrel bikes and I wanted to check them out. After riding a few around the parking lot and speaking with the bike guru, Rob, I decided on the Felt B16. It is the lowest priced bike with a carbon fiber frame and it rode beautifully. Plus, they had the size I needed in stock! The components on the bike are adequate for my needs, and if I ever need, they can be upgraded later on. Here is a good review of the bike that I found.
I have ridden on it 3 times. Once on Saturday night, again Sunday morning and again this morning on my way to work. Today I did a brick workout where I run right after hopping off the bike. My legs felt great and I was able to do 2.6 miles at a 8:46/mile pace. This surprised me! I had expected more around the high nines or even around 10:00/mile. Perhaps it was the bike, perhaps it was the nice weather. Who knows, but I love the bike!

You say high 9’s or 10 like that is a somewhat unacceptable pace
this makes me sad
I ran 1.5 miles this morning at a 10 min pace, and felt pretty good and was wayyyyy excited, till i got here and read this
I need more encouragement.
I have been misunderstood. My intention with this blog is to encourage, not discourage!
That being said – pace is all relative to the individual. I can’t compare myself to the Kenyans that run at 4 minute miles and I can’t compare myself to Lance Armstrong! If I did I would feel bad. All of this is a personal competition and you should be happy with a 10 minute mile if it is a good pace for YOU. So keep at it and next time you will run 9:45 and feel GREAT!!!
Thanks man
RYan said I should be at an 8 min, and i said she should be at any pace besides sitting on the couch hahaha. he also said in regards to your “he hasn’t run far enough” comment, that the Ford family didn’t work as hard as they did for him to have to run, so he has a truck hahaha. He doesn’t want to make them feel bad
I agree “any pace besides sitting on the couch” is the right pace for everyone! You could walk 15 minute miles and be doing better!
Sounds like Ryan came up with a good excuse!
Actually – I think Kevin was saying the high 9s or 10 min. mile pace WAS acceptable – it’s what he was hoping for after his bike ride. And then he pleasantly surprised himself by going even faster!
Crystal – I am running anything from an 8.5 min/mile to an 11.5 min/mile these days. Depends on my mood, the heat, the distance, everything. 10 min. mile is great! I finished the Lake Wylie 10K in 1:08:42, about 11.25 min. pace – and I wasn’t unhappy with that … it was really hilly and I was having an off day with my heart rate!
You’ll have to come join me and Kev for one of our runs one day!
I can run a 9-9.13 min mile on the treadmill, but as soon as it hits 1 mile, i turn it off hahaha.
I would love to join y’all sometime! I ran the Cooper last year, missed it this year, but I am looking forward to next year. My husband got hurt, and once I finished the Cooper, I quit running for probably 8-9mths, so I had to start back over!!!
Yes, we should all run together sometime! Oh wait, we had the chance back in April at the Concord Bunny run, who was it that bailed?
We can all run Cooper 2010 though!
I was at the Bunny Run – I was the one in the bunny costume
Kidding! I forget why I bailed but I’m sure it was a *very* important reason
Cooper 2010 sounds great! Gotta practice my hills for that one … I still have nightmares about that bridge!
I know I like the old bridge, up down up down, instead of 1 mile straight up… but we can do it! I have faith in y’all hahahaha, the most important thing is crossing the finish line, who cares about those pesky Kenyans!!!
