Getting Back On Track

I am on track this week training wise except for the swim that I missed yesterday morning.  I am finding it too hard to get myself up in the mornings!  I will have to change that though if I want to improve my swim times.

After running in the heat last week, I have decided running at lunch time will be off at least until after the summer heat ends.  So I have to reschedule my training times and with a wife that works and 2 young daughters it has been difficult.  My thoughts now are to run Tuesday and Thursday mornings, swim Tuesday and Thursday nights, bike on Wednesday afternoon or evening and try to bike either Friday morning or evening.  Then the weekends will be reserved for a long run and long bike ride, one on each day or a race if I have one scheduled on the weekend.  This will result in 2 short bike rides (10-15 miles each), and one long (starting at 15 miles, working up to 30 miles).  I will also get two short runs (3-6 miles each) and one long (starting at 5 miles, working up to 7 miles).  The schedule will allow for two swim workouts each week starting at 500 yards each and working up to a max of 1500 yards with optional Saturday swim starting in July.  This should get me ready for an International distance triathlon the first weekend of August.  I am trying to decide between the Assault on Cherokee on 8/2/09 or the Lake Logan International Triathlon on 8/1/09.

So I decided to try a run last night since I slept in yesterday morning.  The high yesterday was 90+ and it was humid.  By the time I was able to go for the run, it was still 88 degrees and still humid.  I took Althea with me and we went out.  I told my wife, “I might do 5 or 6 miles if I feel good or I might cut it short.”  She replied, “You’ll be back soon, it’s hot!”  She was right as usual.  I managed to run a 5K distance, but it was tough in the heat.  This all but solidifies my decision to run in the morning and swim at night.  Here are the details of the run.

Next up is a 10 mile bike that I will attempt to do when my wife gets home tonight which should be right about rush hour.  I hope I can keep safe!
