Some Dogs Just Want to Stay Home

I travelled with my wife, Jenn and our two daughters, Mia and Sadie, to my in laws mountain house in Saluda, NC this weekend.  We decided to take our two dogs, Diego and Althea along with us so they could enjoy the trip as well.

We travelled on Friday and on Saturday morning, I decided to get a training run in to stay active and get some hill work in that I knew would be challenging, but beneficial.  I knew I would take Althea who accompanied me on my first attempt at half marathon distance.  I am sure she would have kept going if I had.  I decided at the last minute to take Diego as well so he would not feel left out.

Well, we started with a 5 minute warm up walk at a brisk pace.  Then when I started to run things were going well, that is for 3 minutes.  Then, all of a sudden, I have Althea on my left, pulling me forward and Diego on my right, pulling me backward!  I stopped to check to make sure he wasn’t hurt.  He wasn’t.  We walked for a bit and I tried running again.  Immediately, he started pulling me back again!  Not wanting to hurt him, we walked the rest of the way home and I decided that if it’s going to be more of a walk, Diego would rather just stay home.  And that’s okay.  Althea loves to run and I love to take her because it makes her a better dog at home.  Diego doesn’t have that problem, so the occasional walk seems to be just fine for him.

You can see the stats here, but don’t expect to be impressed!
